A2 Advanced Portfolio- Completed Music Video

After a long time of editing (about 4-5 hours!) I have finally finished my music video! I firstly used iMovie as since last year it has become much more advanced with effective features which I was able to use simply, however after I had done 3 edits on iMovie, I decided that I needed a much  more advanced software: Final Cut X. This enabled me to add on lots of different effects, such as mirrors, flashes and layered images. I am thrilled with my final music video, I hope you enjoy it too...

Magazine Advert

Here is my magazine advert for my coursework. I created this on PicMonkey as well as using iMovie in order to green screen the white background. Firstly I imported the photo into iMovie in order to provide a white background, then I imported it into Gimp.com to make the background transparent and then added it onto picmonaey as an overlay to the frame. I chose Bliss Magazine as the review as the readers of that are typically the listeners of this genre of music.

Third Edit

I have finally finished the second edit of my music video. After doing the pick-up shots I found it a lot easier to edit as I had a much wider range of shots to choose from. The next step is to export it to FinalCut 10 in order to add some funky effects!

A Star To Be...?

Whilst doing some pick-up shots for my music video (yes thats me standing on the table), my dog decided he wanted to feature...
Too cute not to post! ;)

You can also see my Green Screen Set up here. I had 3 lights- 2 side lights and one main light. I found this produced the most effective green screening.

Digipak Front and Back Covers

I created these images firstly, by using iMovie where I changed the green screen background to white. Then I uploaded the image to Lunapic.com in order to make the white background transparent. Then I uploaded this image to a white background on PicMonkey in order to create the covers.

Photoshoot for Album Cover/Magazine

In order to create my Digipak and Magazine Advert , I had to do a photoshoot of Lizzie, my performer. I used the green screen as well as taking some in front of the graffiti wall to create synergy with the video. Here are some shots that I took. I finally decided to use the fourth one for my music video as it looks edgy and 'nasty' and fits with the video.

Photoshoot!

Recently we had a photographer come into school in order to take new prospectus photos, here are the ones from media:

Harry Potter Studios

Last Wednesday we went to the Harry Potter Studios in Watford for a lesson about camera shots and angles and then a tour of the sets.

In the lesson we learnt about how different types of shots can affect how the audience view the film as well as seeing lots of different props, unavailable to the general public, such as Hagrid's trousers!

Here is a slideshow of the pictures I took:

Feedback

Today we Skyped Terry Hall,  a music video director, who gave us some feedback on our music video rough cuts. Here is the feedback that he gave me:

  • Visual style and tone the same
  • No street shots
  • More angles- Close ups, mouth shots, wide shot, side shot etc
  • All black and white?
  • Layered images of Lizzie (3x)
  • Each angle on a different layer of FinalCut
  • OTT as possible with movements/dancing when filming
  • Short shots to punctuate rhythm and certain words
  • Blending modes- Flick between lines on the green screen
  • More text
  • Different graffiti wall with uptown funk angle
  • Faster paced shots
  • Start at black and white shots for first verse then to graffiti wall, then a mixture for the last verse.
Terry also provided me with some reference links for some ideas for my video such as:
"This Rihanna video is a really good reference if you are thinking of going down the black and white route plus it's interesting to look at how they have layered the type and graphics over the top":

"The way this was edited and all of the picture in picture stuff was maybe another good reference. Look at all the additional little dance moves that Beyonce does, even all the little hand gestures and head movements":
